Athletes, Celebrities and Experts Gather to Discuss the Value of Medical Cannabis and Investment Opportunities at CWCBExpo LA 2016

For the those involved in, or interested in, the rapidly growing cannabis industry, the place to be from September 7 – 10, 2016 is the Third Annual Cannabis World Congress and Business Exposition (CWCBExpo) being held in West Hall B of the Los Angeles Convention Center at 1201 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, California. Sponsored by the International Cannabis Association, the event has become widely recognized as the leading industry forum bringing together successful entrepreneurs, investors, businesses and thought leaders from around the country for four days of networking, education, advocacy, exhibitions of the latest products and services and much more.

CWCBExpo differs from other cannabis conventions by placing emphasis on businesses and investment opportunities in an industry forecast to exceed $35 billion in the next four years. These growth forecast is underscored by a paradigm shift in acceptance of cannabis at the state and consumer levels based on recognition of the medicinal benefits of the plant. 25 U.S. states have now legalized medical cannabis, in addition to Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Alaska and Washington, D.C. legalizing recreational cannabis, with more states bringing legalization to vote in November. The sweeping regulatory changes have created a flurry of economic activity and legitimized the business opportunities at hand.

Williams-ChungKeynote speeches from media celebrity Montel Williams titled, “We Can’t Forget ‘Medical’ Cannabis as Legalization Becomes a Reality,” and Ted Chung, entertainment and marketing entrepreneur on, “The Revolution Will Be Televised: MERRY JANE and The Art of Cannabis,” are highlights of the event.   In addition the expo features over 100 companies showcasing products and technologies, more than 65 educational sessions, workshops, and expert panel discussions on the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD) in treating brain injuries such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and concussions and how cannabis could address prescription opioid addiction and PTSD.

“I have witnessed first hand that staggering level of opioid addiction and the devastating effect it has on NFL players and their families,” Marvin Washington said in a phone conversation. Washington, an 11-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos, is a member of the panel addressing the opioid addiction epidemic, along with pain management expert Dr. David Tonkin and Kuseyaay Wellness Center founder Larry Banegas.

Washington added, “I see a changing dynamic with a growing choir of voices of current and former pro athletes openly sharing their stories and advocating for the use of cannabis as a safer alternative to addicting narcotics commonly prescribed for pain management. CWCBExpo is a terrific platform to have an educated discussion on the subject and create greater awareness so the movement can continue to gain momentum for the good of the millions of people coping with pain all across our country.”

Lorenzo Neal, a four-time NFL Pro Bowl selection, joins former NFL players Jake Plummer and Nate Jackson, along with former NHL player Riley Cote, for a panel discussion on brain injuries. “Despite best efforts, progress in developing traditional pharmaceuticals for the deleterious effects on the brain resulting from collisions has been minimal at best,” says Neal. “There is overwhelming anecdotal evidence as to the clinical benefits of CBD in addressing head injuries. Thanks to high-profile events like CWCBExpo, we can continue to educate people and break down barriers to dedicate greater resources for research in order to get safe and effective cannabis-based products to patients in great need.”
